Wilson Trucking Corporation Honors Its Champion
Driver With Special Edition Volvo VN

Guy Wilson (left), Executive Vice President,
and Chuck Wilson (right), President and CEO
of Wilson Trucking Corporation, presents
driver Ryland Hogan (center) with the keys
to his new truck.
Wilson Trucking Corporation honored Ryland
B. Hogan for winning his category of the
National Truck Driving Championship by having
a special edition Volvo VN built for his
exclusive use. The truck was awarded during
the company’s appreciation luncheon honoring
Hogan.
Mr. Hogan won the five-axle tractor competition
at the NTDC, an annual competition held by
the American Trucking Associations which
was held this past August in Tampa, Florida.
The road to becoming a national champion
is challenging. Simply in order to compete,
a driver cannot have been involved in any
type vehicle accident, regardless of fault.
The driver must also win their category at
the state level before advancing the NTDC.
Once at the NTDC, the best of the best compete
in written examinations, oral interviews,
vehicle pre-trip inspections and, of course,
tests of driving skills.
“Ryland exemplifies all attributes of a professional
truck driver and his commitment to driving
safety and excellence is beyond compare,”
said Charles L. Wilson, president of Wilson
Trucking Corporation. “For more than 30 years,
Ryland has driven the big rigs on all types
of highways and in all weather conditions.
Ryland has been an active participant in
truck driving championships since 1972. He
has placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in 43 different
competitive events. In 2004 Ryland was honored
by the American Trucking Association him
when he was presented with the ATA Professional
Excellence Award.”
The company actively supports state and national
truck driving championships, and holds company
championships in each state where it has
terminals, to select its representatives
at the state competition.
“Wilson Trucking Corporation believes that
truck driving competitions help make our
drivers more safety conscious while on the
highways,” Mr. Wilson said. “We are especially
proud of Ryland, but in truth we are proud
of all of our drivers. Our people have given
Wilson Trucking Corporation a reputation
for being safe and courteous. We are also
proud to be one of the leading companies
of the more than 14,000 family-owned and
corporate trucking businesses based in Virginia.”
In addition to the truck, Mr. Hogan will
receive a $1,000 savings bond, a week long
Caribbean cruise and a championship ring.
The Volvo VN awarded to Mr. Hogan will be
for his exclusive use in the next year. It
features chromed components and bright work
not found on other Wilson trucks, along with
wide-base single tires, polished aluminum
wheels, a special decal proclaiming Mr. Hogan’s
achievement at the NTDC and his name on the
door. It was delivered to Wilson Trucking’s
headquarters the morning of the event by
employees of Volvo Trucks North America’s
New River Valley Plant, where it was built.
